WHAT DOES BULWARK MEAN?

Metaphorically, it refers to a person or thing that acts as a strong, protective shield.

Bulwark was founded by Alex Milsom in 2024. Alex started training Jiu Jitsu in 2016 to learn self-defence and quickly fell in love with the sport as well as the designs of kit by the likes of Meerkatsu. Despite it being outlawed by the club he started at (Can you guess where?).

Alex is now a black belt and trains at Inspire Jiu Jitsu in Bicester and regularly drops into Southern Tribes in Milton Keynes to see his old training partners.

Alongside his training, Alex has worked as a designer for the last 10 years. Working for large companies like Rightmove, to design agencies like Oliver. For the last 4 years, Alex has worked in defence and currently works at Raytheon as a Creative Lead.

It’s this unique blend of Jiu Jitsu and design that birthed the idea of Bulwark Fightwear.

It all started when David (Inspire Jiu Jitsu’s head coach) asked Alex if he could come up with a rashguard design for a club rashguard based on the 80’s film “Roadhouse.

Not one to turn down a challenge, Alex accepted and that was the first kit Bulwark put out.

Since then, Alex has had the privilege of designing kits for the likes of Thames Valley Police and the UK Para Jiu Jitsu team.

Alex’s focus is now to grow Bulwarks own designs and build a proper Jiu Jitsu fightwear business.

There’s two simple points that Bulwark sticks too.

The best quality kit possible. With 10 years of training, Alex know what makes a good kit and why skimping on quality isn’t worth it. Alex spent the 1st year of the business sampling a number of different manufacturers to find the right supplier that can meet his high standards.

The second point is world-class designs. None of this slapping a logo and calling it a day. Which seems to be what most of the brands are doing these day.

Bulwark is about top-quality kit and sick designs.
